When you see yourself on TV it's time to get a new face

When Boy B(l)ands masquerade as Punk Pop, with synchronized Pogoing and the wardrobe of Green Day (they can't even find a decent Punk band to immitate), it's no wonder that the Alt. scenes are turning to suits in protest. Punk's become a market place again. It's time to find something else. Always one step ahead, 'The Yoof' are currently mixing MIB minimalism with old-school Punk and Mod styles in increasing numbers.

When the likes of Robbie WillyArms and Rolon Katering sport Hoxton Mohawks and over-amped guitars, you know it's time for change. Personally, I find myself favouring a vintage, double-breasted pinstripe, with suitably inappropriate footwear (dodgy white tennis shoes), but I'm seeing an increasing number of people in smoking jackets, candy-striped bathrobes, crombies, etc. It's always been this way: when the maintstream buys into dressing down, the Alt. scenes dress to impress (see Mods versus Hippies, New Romantics versus designer New Wave, Goth versus Top Shop Grunge).
