Seems as if I might be coming to the end of what has been two weeks of chaos / fun: treading water, being polite, interviews, ideas for new articles, odd SchVtrn goings on. Steve in radio silence. Hanging out with Jo CrackerDog in the Big Smoke {really need to sit down and burn the film but can't find appropriate fonts for titles}, Al CrackerDog on bbc web site, jamming with Jennie drums in a crazed anti-White Stripes drums/voice/guitar stylee {scratching live-vocals, classy old-school beats, wall-of-sound}, obsessing over MekSet remixes {in-your-face Curve/Massive/darkwave/house workouts = loads of potential}. Our new recruits {Toni Halliday / Shirley Manson vocalist + son of Nigel droner / industrial blues guitarist: totally professional yet totally down-to-earth.} making me see how cool this could be. Should be. And me not getting over-excited {always a really good sign}.Taking liberties with these all-new, improvized Mekano Set recordings {the bass end has become very House - funny how influences 'appear' when you don't force them} = mashup remixes / jump-cuts / cinematic / melodic / groovy as hell.
Refreshing attitude: this isn't how people in bands behave. What is it? What is the difference? Honesty {not to be confused with something 'learned' or 'how to signify sincerity'}. Doing what you want to do instead of doing what you think you should do in order to get people to love you. As Ade always says, we didn't start making music to make cooler friends.
These days, especially in terms of music, it's too easy to be 'good' {polished, throwing the right shapes etc.}. Something missing. Learned recently that even your friends won't take an interest in your activities until they read about them in a magazine, or hear someone famous talking about you. Are we still so scared about doing something 'uncool'?
The harder I try to explain myself the more open I become to misinterpretation.
And actually, either the chaos is over for a very long time, or things are going to get even more interesting. Can't see aroud corners.
